Four letters · the default extension

CWYI.com is a short, neutral four-letter initialism on the world's default commercial extension. It carries no meaning to unlearn, no spelling to correct and no country to explain — which is precisely what makes it useful to a firm that intends to be known by its letters.

Four characters, no hyphens, no numerals, clean history. Sold directly by its owner and transferred through a reputable accredited registrar.

The asset

Why a four-letter .com still sets the ceiling

Length and extension are the only two attributes of a domain that never change with fashion. A four-character name on .com is the shortest form most companies will ever realistically own, and .com remains the extension a customer types when they are not thinking about it.

01

The default extension

Verisign's .com and .net base stood at 179.1 million names at the end of Q2 2026, with 12.7 million new registrations in the quarter — the strongest since 2021. Nothing else has that gravity.

02

Fixed supply

There are 456,976 possible four-letter .com combinations and every one has been registered for over a decade. New four-letter inventory cannot be created; it can only change hands.

03

Neutral by design

An initialism carries no built-in category, so it does not date when the product changes. It is the same reason mature firms trade a descriptive name for a set of letters as they grow.

04

Operationally short

Eight characters end to end. It fits an email address, a CLI example, a footer, a business card and a spoken handover on a call without being spelled out twice.

05

A liquid tier

Four-letter .coms led reported wholesale volume among liquid domain categories in Q2 2026, which means an established resale channel exists if your plans ever change.

06

Clean record

No spam history, no malware listing, no legacy redirect to unwind. The name arrives without anything attached to it that has to be explained to a security team.

Possible buyers

Who this name is built for

CWYI.com suits organisations that lead with letters rather than a description — professional firms, data and AI businesses, financial platforms and enterprises that already operate under an initialism.

01 / Consulting

Consulting & advisory firms

The professional-services sector runs on initials, from the largest audit networks down to three-partner boutiques. A four-letter .com reads as an established practice on a letterhead, an engagement letter and an email address, and it survives every merger, rebrand and change of partner line-up without needing to be replaced.

  • Management consulting
  • Advisory boutiques
  • Professional services
  • Corporate finance
02 / AI & data

AI / data intelligence startups

Verisign attributed part of its record quarter to AI-driven demand, and .ai names now clear six figures routinely. For a company whose product is inference rather than a category, a neutral four-letter .com is the cheaper and more durable position — short enough for an API host, generic enough to survive a pivot.

  • Applied AI
  • Data intelligence
  • Model infrastructure
  • Developer platforms
03 / Fintech

Fintech & wealth analytics

Financial platforms are judged on trust signals before features, and the extension is one of them. A short .com sits comfortably next to a regulated entity name, reads correctly in a compliance disclosure, and does not raise a question in a due-diligence review the way an unfamiliar extension can.

  • Wealth analytics
  • Payments
  • Market data
  • Regtech
04 / Enterprise

Global enterprises using initialisms

Large organisations that already trade under four letters spend real money keeping the matching .com away from typosquatters and phishing operators. Acquiring it outright is usually cheaper than a decade of monitoring, takedown requests and defensive registrations across a dozen extensions.

  • Brand protection
  • Group holding companies
  • Subsidiary consolidation
  • Internal platforms
05 / SaaS

Tech tools & SaaS platforms

For a tool company the domain is also the product surface: the dashboard host, the API endpoint, the documentation URL and the address a developer types from memory. Four characters keep every one of those short, and a .com keeps them credible in procurement.

  • B2B SaaS
  • Developer tooling
  • Internal systems
  • API platforms

ICANN's second new gTLD application window closes this week

ICANN opened the 2026 round for new generic top-level domains on 30 April 2026, with the application window closing on 12 August 2026. President and CEO Kurtis Lindqvist framed new gTLDs as "unique digital tools that can be used in meaningful and innovative ways to help achieve long-term goals."

The preceding Applicant Support Program window closed on 23 December 2025 with 72 submitted applications against up to 40 supported slots, flexible to roughly 45. Whatever is delegated from this round, none of it changes what a four-letter .com is worth to a buyer who needs to be found without instruction.

Questions

Frequently asked

Is the price negotiable?

The asking price is USD $8,900. Reasonable offers are read and answered, and instalment terms over a fixed period can be arranged for a serious buyer. Offers well below the asking price are usually declined politely rather than countered.

How long does the transfer take?

Once terms are agreed and payment clears, the change of registrant is usually complete within a few business days. Timing depends on the registrar you nominate and on standard sixty-day transfer-lock rules where they apply.

Does CWYI stand for anything?

Nothing fixed — and that is the point. The letters carry no prior meaning to displace, so the buyer defines what they stand for. Neutral initialisms are the reason so many mature firms are known by four letters rather than a description.

What is the domain's history?

It has a clean record and has never been used for spam, malware or any activity that would affect its standing. There is no legacy content and no redirect history to unwind, so it can be put into production immediately.

Do the sale prices in the newsroom set this price?

No. The newsroom is market context, not a valuation. Reported sales are published by third parties, cover names of very different quality, and are included to show what is happening in the aftermarket — not to justify the asking price, which is set independently.

Can you hold it while we get approval?

Usually, yes. If a purchase needs to clear a board, a procurement process or a legal review, say so in your message and a short exclusivity window can normally be agreed while terms are settled.

Will you sell to a competitor of mine?

The domain sells once, to whoever agrees terms first. If timing matters, the exclusivity window above is the practical way to secure your position while the paperwork is done.
